Fremont Street Experience

One of the main attractions and awe-inspiring places to visit in Las Vegas is the Fremont Street Experience. The Free light show is one of the most popular attractions downtown and maybe even among the strip itself.

Located in the very heart of Las Vegas, Fremont Street has ten legendary casinos near the Viva Vision screen where the show takes place. There are also many restaurants and other attractions in the same area as well.

For downtown Fremont Street is like the strip is to the newer hotels here in Las Vegas. The light show has 12 million lights with hundreds of thousands of wattage blasted into the sound system. The show lasts 10 minutes and is breath taking to see. The display is 90 feet above with a continuous display of what Vegas is famous for, lights.

This is a family affair event so don’t hesitate to bring the kids all the way up to Grandma, everyone will find enjoyment at the Fremont light show.

Hotels And Restaurants

Packed into downtown you have 10 main hotels and 60 different styles of restaurants to choose from. Just on a personal note, you have to like the ambiance of older hotels and clientele to stay downtown, the attractions are another thing.

You truly can spend a whole day walking around and visiting the numerous mini shops that line the downtown streets. You will probably find lower prices for rooms and dinning overall in downtown Vegas. If this is a factor for you then definitely look into staying at a Downtown Vegas Hotel.

Downtown hotels:

  • California Hotel & Casino
  • Fitzgeralds Las Vegas
  • 4 Queens Casino Hotel
  • Fremont Hotel and Casino
  • Golden Gate Hotel & Casino
  • Golden Nugget Hotel
  • Lady Luck Casino Hotel
  • Las Vegas Club

Transportation And Safety

I know the California Hotel and Casino has a shuttle going to Sam’s Town, taxis are always available too. For the average person walking from downtown to the main strip is to far, if this is a factor check with these main hotels for options. I know some have arrangements with limo services that take groups at discount prices to the strip.

Also, the CAT (public bus) runs up and down the strip, it’s about $2.00 a trip. If you plan to drive around for a day or two, then renting a car at the hotel might be the best option.

Security – There is ample security if you stay within the main boundaries of downtown Vegas. I’ve walked the streets at night and felt safe, just make sure you stay where the crowds are at. It’s possible not knowing the layout that one can drift off the popular path, this I would be cautious of.

In every place there are characters, downtown Las Vegas has there share too.

Overall at the least a day trip to old downtown is worth the visit, see how it was before and enjoy some of the newer attractions of today.
